Seeing in the Dark
With their third full length release, Cedar Falls, Iowa's NineDollarMelonBaller has elevated themselves to a songcrafting and performing level positioning themselves as a future force in rock and roll.
Still carrying the powerful signature essence of their earlier music that carved them into one of the most popular bands in the Hawkeye State and neighboring environs, a definite pop slant to the songs tempers the music slightly but also gives it a serious lift.
Just feel the brooding intensity of the lead track "Nothing At All" and you get a good idea right from the start of the progression of this talented act.
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Marc Barry has really polished his songwriting abilities, letting loose his passions and talents all through the thirteen tracks.
The deep passion of the acoustic "Marco Polo" and the dramatically burgeoning fervor in "Brother James" are great examples of Marc's talent in both areas.
His throaty powerful vocals are backed more often by delicious harmonies on this CD, wonderfully evident in the balladic jewel "King For A Day".
Even with the more acoustic feel to this CD, there are still some great hard-hitting rockers like "Drown" and "Dogged".
The rhythm machine is solidly anchored by the steady percussion groove of drummer Mike Linsey and the driving bass riffs of Brandon Mills.
With several songs that have "radio hit" written all over them and consequential widespread appeal, this CD could very well be the well-deserved launching pad for a hard working band from the Midwest.
I'll Give You Something To Cry About
NineDollarMelonBaller's music is guitar-driven music with scathing lyrics fueled by blistering musical passages.
Iowa's NineDollarMelonBaller features the talents of songwriter/vocalist/guitarist Marc Barry, bassist Ryan Garrett, and drummer Dustin Oliverson, all veteran musicians who have positioned themselves for success with their debut CD I'll Give You Something To Cry About.
Filled with intense songwriting, solid bass plucking, riff-driven guitar and hypnotic vocals reminiscent of Creed, Collective Soul and STP, this music is a must for the hard-driven alternative music enthusiast.
