How can I speak to someone directly about my financial contributions?

Thank you for your patience. To speak with a staff member, please call us at 215-885-1811 ext. 3. If no one answers, please leave a message and we will contact you as soon as we are able. You can also email us at donations@serge.org.

When can I expect a receipt for my recent donation?

Receipts are sent out weekly. We process checks as we receive them from the United States Post Office, which is currently experiencing significant delays. If you haven’t received a receipt from us in a few weeks, please feel free to contact us via email at donations@serge.org.

How can I make a donation over the phone?

Unfortunately, our staff are unable to take donations over the phone at this time since our staff is working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You are still able to make your donation online or mail a check.

The missionary I support has returned from the field. How long should I continue my contributions?

Missionaries returning from the field may have a continuing support need if their account is in deficit or they are on an approved leave of absence. If that is the case, your missionary will let you know, and your continued partnership will be much appreciated.

If they do not have a continuing support need, your missionary will let you know, and you may discontinue your giving on the date he/she indicates.

If you’d like to help Serge recruit and send new missionaries, please consider continuing your support to the Serge Core Ministry Fund. Regardless of your decision, thank you for your generosity and faithfulness.

How do I give a personal gift to my missionary?

Personal gifts are non-tax-deductible gifts, unrelated to the missionary’s ministry. Please download this form to mail in with your personal gift, and clearly note that this is a non-tax-deductible gift on the memo line of your check.

I cannot find my missionary when I search for them. How do I give to them?

Some of our missionaries serve in fields where great sensitivity is required. If you’d like to give to an unlisted missionary, and you know your missionary’s designation number, you can donate online here: Give to an Unlisted Missionary or Project. Can I contribute stock?

Can I make a contribution from my IRA account?

To contribute from your IRA account, you can download instructions here. You can also contact Serge’s Donations Department by emailing donations@serge.org or calling 215-885-1811 (ext. 3).

Can I make a donation from my DAF?

To make a contribution from your Donor Advised Fund, please contact your financial institution or foundation regarding your intention to make a gift to Serge. Alternatively, you can contact your fund manager and suggest directing your desired gift amount to Serge [Global Inc]. To ensure seamless processing, please request that your name and address be included along with the gift details. You can find out helpful information here.

Please get in touch with Serge to let us know the name of your fund and the grant dollar amount so we can thank you for your generosity.

How do I set up an EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer)?

The easiest way to use EFT is to set it up as a payment method on your account page, or you can enter your information at checkout. If you prefer, you may also submit an EFT via mail using the form below as a guide.

What are the fees associated with giving via Credit Card, PayPal, EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer)?

The most cost-effective method for you to give is by automating a one-time or recurring Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) from your bank account. Unlike Credit Card and PayPal gifts, this method incurs no processing fees on your donation.

Paypal and Credit Cards charge processing fees of approximately 3%, with Credit Cards incurring the higher fees.

How can I modify or cancel my EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) or RCC (Recurring Credit Card) arrangement?

Visit “My Account” and login to change your donation information. If you need assistance, please email donations@serge.org and we are happy to assist you.

When will my checking account be drafted if I have a recurring EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer)?

Your checking account will be drafted on the 5th, 10th, or 20th of each month, depending on which day you chose for your contribution.

When is my credit card charged for a one-time gift?

A one-time gift is charged the day the transaction is initiated.

When is my credit card charged for a recurring gift?

RCCs (Recurring Credit Card) donations are charged on or about the 5th, 10th, or 20th of each month, depending on what date you chose for your contribution.

Is the process of giving cryptocurrency through Engiven safe and secure?

The Engiven platform is a third-party vendor-provided donation software technology that enables nonprofits to safely and securely receive cryptocurrency donations and then convert those donations into usable fiat currency such as US dollars. Learn more about Engiven here.

As with any electronic payment or transaction, there are risks. However, our vendor Engiven has created safeguards to ensure that the transaction is secure. With the transfer of cryptocurrency from donor to nonprofit, the transaction can be as secure as many other forms of payment, provided specific protocols are followed. 1) By using the Engiven platform, both Serge and the donor are required to undergo a simple but effective Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) screening which provides a high level of background security to ensure both parties are properly screened. 2) As with any cryptocurrency transaction, when transferring your tokens to Serge’s wallet to make a donation, do not expose or share your wallet’s private keys at any time. What is the federal tax treatment of cryptocurrency donations?

For US tax purposes, transactions using virtual currency must be reported in US dollars. Therefore, taxpayers are required to determine the fair market value of virtual currency in U.S. dollars as of the date of donation. Donors who give cryptocurrency donations to Serge will receive an electronic donation confirmation (through the Engiven donation platform) in US dollars with comprehensive details about each transaction, and a receipt from Serge.

Where is our annual giving statement located?

Annual giving statements are sent to all donors once a year at the end of January. If you did not receive your giving statement or need another copy, please contact us via email at donations@serge.org.

Is Serge a registered 501(c)3?

Serving with Serge FAQs

How do I get appointed for service overseas?

That depends on how long you want to stay. Short-Term Teams  (1-2 weeks) have very minimal requirements. You register, seek the approval of your spiritual mentors—and our mobilization team—raise the support, and make the trip.

Interns submit an application for review by the Serge mobilization team and overseas field leadership. If you are approved, you’re soon on your way.

Apprentices (those serving 18-24 months) and long-term missionaries (2+ years) go through a more extensive process. We will ask you to have a preliminary phone conversation, submit a written application, gather personal and pastoral references, and quite possibly visit your mission field of interest. Finally, we invite you to one of our quarterly Assessment and Orientation (A&O) weeks at our office in suburban Philadelphia. The A&O process gives us a chance to get to know each other well enough to “measure the fit.”

How long does it take to get overseas?

There is no single, simple answer. The longer you will serve overseas, the longer it usually takes to get you there. For example, upon receiving your complete application, it may take 3 to 6 months to arrange your participation in an A&O week. Then, it usually takes about 18 months to raise support and be deployed for long-term (2+ years) appointments. However, this process may be much faster for individuals going on shorter-term assignments.

How much money do I need to raise to go overseas?

Overseas missionaries are required to raise 100% of their salaries, ministry expenses, and administrative expenses to serve overseas. This number can vary significantly depending on the country of service, marital status, experience, and job requirements.

What is the process for raising support?

If the Lord is calling you to go, He will provide the needed resources. Many of our missionaries begin with family, friends, and their home churches. But the Lord frequently surprises you with how He provides for your needs. Serge assigns every apprentice (18-24 month term), and long-term missionary (2+ years), a support coach to guide them through the process. You will have regular interactions with your support coach. These conversations are not simply “how to” sessions, but part of a discipling relationship that will encourage you in your walk as you prepare to serve overseas.

How does your salary structure work?

We take our instructions from the apostle Paul who said that every worker is entitled to his hire. So, our finance team strives to see that every Serge missionary is paid a fair wage. Our salary structure for overseas missionaries is a complex formula that considers many different elements: your experience, job description, family size, field of service, and other factors. We will walk you through those accounting equations during your orientation.

Do I need to be debt free to serve with Serge?

Serge does not have a policy regarding personal debt. However, personal debt may hinder you from serving. We would encourage you to talk with us if you have concerns regarding this issue.

Does Serge accept missionaries that are divorced?

Yes, Serge will appoint missionaries that are divorced. However, we will talk with you about your divorce in order to better understand the circumstances and situation.

Do you have educational requirements?

Serge does not require you to have attended Bible college or seminary. However, many positions within the mission necessitate certain educational requirements. Educational backgrounds in various fields may also help you in your present ministry, or with future advancement. Our mobilization team will help match you up with an opportunity that conforms to your experience, your gifts, and your education.

Am I assigned a field to serve on, or can I choose?

We love it when individuals come to us with a heart for a particular region. However, we also want to help you discern if your particular gifts may be used in areas that you may have not considered. And since we emphasize team ministry we will strive to place you on a team that fits your gifts and temperament. So, we want to explore several options with you. However, our final decision will be by mutual consent—we would never send you to a field against your will!

What type of health coverage do I receive as an overseas missionary?

Serge overseas missionaries are covered by a major medical health plan. Coverage is effective from the date of deployment. We will provide more details for you as needed.

How would my children be educated overseas if I was a missionary?

We consider the education of our missionary children to be very important. The answer varies from field to field, and family to family. Some missionary children attend public schools on the field, while others attend private or boarding school. Some are home-schooled or have Serge “Missionary Kid teachers” teach their children.

What are the costs for a Short-Term Team trip?

Costs vary for each trip. You can get specifics for a trip that interests you by contacting Brad Wallace at bwallace@serge.org.

How should I pay for a Short-Term trip?

You can raise money from friends and family, through your church, and sometimes directly through Serge.

How soon do I need to sign up?

Sooner is better. All of our trips close at least two months before departure, and you may be looking to raise support. Take the first step and complete the Short-Term Team application.
